5 Homemade Cat Food Recipes for Happy, Healthy Felines

Feeding our feline friends can be a puzzling task. With the abundance of commercial cat food options on the market, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. However, many cat owners are turning to homemade cat food as a way to ensure their furry companions receive the best nutrition possible. One of the most talked-about options in this realm is feeding cats raw meat. Let's dive into the world of homemade cat food, exploring raw meat options and delicious recipes that will have your cat purring with delight.

Raw Meat for Cats: The concept of feeding cats raw meat stems from their ancestral diet. Cats in the wild are true carnivores, meaning their bodies are designed to thrive on a diet primarily consisting of meat. Raw meat closely mimics what cats would eat in their natural habitat, providing essential nutrients in a form their bodies can readily utilize.

When opting for raw meat, it's crucial to prioritize quality and safety. Look for fresh, human-grade meats that aren’t too high in fat.

Meat Varieties Used In Easy Homemade Cat Food Recipes:

  1. Chicken: Chicken is a staple protein source in many homemade cat food recipes. It's lean, rich in protein, and readily available. When using chicken for your cat's meals, consider including dark and white meats, with and without skin.
  2. Turkey: Similar to chicken, turkey is another excellent protein option for homemade cat food. It's low in fat and easy for cats to digest, making it ideal for those with sensitive stomachs. When purchasing ground turkey, avoid turkey with the rosemary extract preservative.
  3. Beef: Beef offers a hearty flavor that many cats adore. Opt for lean cuts such as sirloin or flank steak, and remember to trim excess fat before serving.  Extra lean or lean ground beef is also an excellent option.
  4. Lean pork: Pork is a good protein for cats, as long as it’s fresh and not too high in fat. A good alternative for cats with allergies to other proteins.
  5. Rabbit: Rabbit meat is a lean and protein-rich option that's well-suited for cats with food sensitivities. It's also a novel protein source, making it an excellent choice for cats with allergies to more common meats like chicken or beef.

Supplements, Vitamins and Minerals to Consider for Your Homemade Cat Food Recipe

There are a couple of options when choosing your homemade cat food recipes.  Would you prefer to purchase each supplement or additional ingredient individually for the meal, such as a calcium source, omegas, taurine and Vitamins?  Or purchase a whole food premix that has all of the added nutrients included and takes the guess work out of creating a homemade cat food from scratch?

The cat food recipes below include Know Better for Cats Premixes.  The premix offers peace of mind that the homemade cat food meal will be balanced and complete and no other supplementation is needed.  Our products are Holistic Veterinarian recommended and made with human grade ingredients in Canada and the USA.
